PowerBook Date Checker · Download CheckYear0408.sit (1.3 MB, Requires StuffIt Lite 7.0)
Anytime a PowerBook battery is completely drained, chaos will ensue: the machine may not start correctly until fully charged, software may not behave properly and the system clock will almost certainly lose its date and time. This loss of date and time can result in e-mail being sent in the distant past or the future; both conditions can cause your e-mail to be held by the server or lost in the incoming mailbox. Worse, newly created data files will have the wrong date and time making time-based searches impossible.

There is a solution. We've written a small program that checks the year. Putting this program in your non-Mac OS X Startup items folder will automatically check your year at startup. If the year seems possible (2004-2008), the program quietly quits. Any other year, however, will generate a reminder that your clock is probably wrong and needs attention.

Runs in Mac OS 7.x through 9.x and Classic
